(a) 17 × 29 =
(b) 17 × 65 =
(c) 17 × 310 =
We have found all the answers.

2. Multiply and reduce to lowest form (if possible):

Instruction

(i)23 × (223)
Converting 2 23 to improper fraction:
23 × 83 =
(ii) 27 × 79 =
(iii) 38 × 64 =
(iv) 95 × 35 =
(v) 13 × 158 =
(vi) 112 × 310 =
(vii)45 × 127 =
We have found all the answers.

3. Multiply the following fractions:

Instruction

(i)25 × 514
Converting 5 14 to improper fraction:
25 × 214 = 2×215×4 =
(ii) 625 × 79
Converting 6 25 to improper fraction:
325 × 79 = 32×75×9 =
(iii) 32 × 513
Converting 5 13 to improper fraction:
32 × 163 = 3×162×3 =
(iv) 56× 237
Converting 2 37 to improper fraction:
56 × 177 = 5×176×7 =
(v) 325 × 47
Converting 3 25 to improper fraction:
175 × 47 =
(vi) 235× 3
Converting 2 35 to improper fraction:
135 × 3 =
(vii) 347 × 35
Converting 3 47 to improper fraction:
257 × 35=
We have found all the answers.

4. Which is greater:

Instruction

(a)27 of 34 (or) 35 of 58 ?
27 × 34 = (Enter the simplified form) ; 35 × 58 =
314 38
Thus, 27 × 34 is than 35 × 58
(b)12 of 67 (or) 23 of 37 ?
12 × 67 = (Enter the simplified form) ; 23 × 37 =
37 27
Thus, 12 × 67 is than 23 × 37
We have found all the answers.

5.Saili plants 4 saplings, in a row, in her garden. The distance between two adjacent saplings is 34m. Find the distance between the first and the last sapling.

Solution:

Total number of saplings = 4.

Distance between two adjacent saplings = 34 m

Distance between the first and the last sapling = × 34 m = m

By converting an improper fraction into a mixed fraction, we get: 94 m = × m.

Thus, the distance between the first and last sapling is 2 14m.

6.Lipika reads a book for 1 ×34 hours everyday. She reads the entire book in 6 days. How many hours in all were required by her to read the book?

Solution:

Number of hours taken by Lipika to read a book everyday = 1 34 = .

Number of days taken to read the entire book = 6.

Total number of hours required by her to read the complete book = (74) × 6

= 424 = 212= × (Enter the mixed fraction)

Thus, 10 × 12 hours were required by Lipika to read the complete book.

7. A car runs 16 km using 1 litre of petrol. How much distance will it cover using 2 34 litres of petrol.

Solution:

Distance covered by the car using 1 litre of petrol = 16 km

By converting a mixed number into improper fractions: 2 34 litres = litres

Distance covered by using 2 34 litres of petrol = 16 km × 114 = km

Thus, 44 km distance will be covered by the car using 2 × 3/4 litres of petrol.

8.(a) (i) Fill in the blanks: such that 23 × ? = 1030

(ii) The simplest form of the number obtained is ?

(b) (i) Fill the blanks: such that 35 × ? = 2475.

(ii) The simplest form of the number obtained is ?

Solution:

(a) (i) 23 × =

Therefore, 510 is the number in the box, such that 23 × 510 = 1030.

(ii) The simplest form of 510 obtained is .

(b) (i) 35 × = 2475

Therefore, 815 is the number in the box, such that 35 × 815 = 2475.

(ii) Therefore the simplest form of 815 is .
