Introduction: Plane Figures and Solid Shapes
We have studied in detail and learnt about the properties of shapes, which have a length and a breadth. However, when we observe our immediate surroundings, there aren't many examples of 2-d (or) two-dimensional bodies. Often, the objects have a third dimension i.e. height (or) depth. Therefore, they have a total of three dimensions.
These objects have area, as well as, volume (occupy space).
They are three dimensional shapes (in short- 3-D objects)
Note: We can write 2-D in short for 2-dimension and 3-D in short for 3-dimension
We can observe various shapes in our immediate surroundings like:
All of these can be represented in a simplified manner i.e. 2D representation. Let's try.
Match the following 3-D objects with their corresponding 2D representation
