Solid Shapes

We have already understood that three dimensional shapes when cut along its edges can be converted into two dimensional figures. Below we can see that a cylinder when "opened along its height" - consists of two circles (base on both sides) and a rectangle (the side surface).

Here, the line segment joining the center of circular faces is perpendicular to the base. These types of cylinders are called right circular cylinders. We will be working mostly with these in this section.
