Rectangular Paths

Example: A rectangular path is a border area around a plot. The path has a uniform width all around Area calculation involves finding the difference between two rectangles

Solution:

Given dimensions:

Plot size: 60m × 40m

Path width: 3m all around

a) Calculate Outer Rectangle (EFGH):

Length = 60m

Width = 40m

Area = 60 × 40 = m2

b) Calculate Inner Rectangle (ABCD):

Length = 60m - (2 × 3m) = m

Width = 40m - (2 × 3m) = m

Area = 54 × 34 = m2

c) Calculate Path Area:

Path Area = Outer Rectangle Area - Inner Rectangle Area

Path Area = 2400 m2 - 1836 m2 = m2
