Find the sum in each of the following.

Instruction

Rashid spent ₹ 35.75 for Maths book and ₹ 32.60 for Science book. Find the total amount spent by Rashid.

Solution:

Amount spent on Maths book = ₹

Amount spent on Science book = ₹

Therefore, total money spent by Rashid on both the books = ₹ + ₹ = ₹ .

Radhika’s mother gave her ₹ 10.50 and her father gave her ₹ 15.80, find the total amount given to Radhika by the parents

Solution:

The amount received by Radhika from her mother = ₹

The amount received by Radhika from her father = ₹

Therefore, total money Radhika received from her parents = ₹ + ₹ = ₹ .

Nasreen bought 3 m 20 cm cloth for her shirt and 2 m 5 cm cloth for her trouser. Find the total length of cloth bought by her.

Solution:

Length of cloth in metres bought for the shirt = m cm = (3 + 20100) m = m

Length of cloth in metres bought for the trouser = m cm = (2 + 5100) m = m

So, total length of cloth bought by her = m + m = m

Naresh walked 2 km 35 m in the morning and 1 km 7 m in the evening. How much distance did he walk in all?

Solution:

Distance covered in kilometres by Naresh in the morning = km m = (2 + 351000) km = km.

Distance covered in kilometres by Naresh in the evening = km m = (1 + 71000) km = km

Therefore, Total distance walked by him in all = ( + ) km = km

Sunita travelled 15 km 268 m by bus, 7 km 7 m by car and 500 m on foot in order to reach her school. How far is her school from her residence?

Instruction

Distance travelled by Sunita by bus = km m [Since 1000 m = 1 km]
268 m = 2681000 km = km
Therefore, distance travelled by Sunita by bus = km + km = km
Distance travelled by Sunita by car = km m [Since 1000 m = 1 km]
7 m = 71000 km = km
Therefore, distance travelled by Sunita by car = 7 km + 0.007 km = km
Distance travelled by Sunita on foot = m [Since 1000 m = 1 km]
500 m = 5001000 km = km
Therefore, distance travelled by Sunita by car = 0.50 km
Therefore, the distance between her school and her residence
= Distance travelled by Sunita by bus + Distance travelled by Sunita by car + Distance travelled by Sunita on foot = km + km + km = km
Therefore, Sunita’s school is 22.775 km away from her residence.

Ravi purchased 5 kg 400 g rice, 2 kg 20 g sugar and 10 kg 850g flour. Find the total weight of his purchases.

Instruction

Weight of rice purchased by Ravi = kg g [Since 1000 g = 1 kg]
400 g = 4001000 kg = kg
Therefore, weight of rice purchased by Ravi = kg + kg = kg
Weight of sugar purchased by Ravi = kg g [Since 1000 g = 1 kg]
20 g = 201000 kg = kg
Therefore, weight of sugar purchased by Ravi = kg + kg = kg
Weight of flour purchased by Ravi = kg g [Since 1000 g = 1 kg]
850 g = 8501000 kg = kg
Therefore, weight of flour purchased by Ravi = kg + kg = kg
We know that the total weight of Ravi’s purchases = Weight of rice purchased by Ravi + Weight of sugar purchased by Ravi + Weight of flour purchased by Ravi = kg + kg + kg = kg
Therefore, the total weight of Ravi’s purchases is 18.270 kg.
