Summary

In this chapter, you have studied the following points :

Tangent is a line which is touching the circle at exactly point.

Meanwhile, Secant is is a line which is touching the circle at two points. Thus, tangent is a special case of a where the two end points coincide.

The tangent to a circle is to the radius through the point of contact.

At any point on a circle, there can be one and only one tangent.

Thus, a circle has number of possible tangents.

The lengths of the two tangents from an external point to a circle are .

Using Pythagoras Theorem, we can prove that the centre of the circle, lies on the bisector of the angle between the two tangents of an exterior angle.
