Construction of Triangles > Construction of a triangle when measurements of the three are given (SSS)

Construction of a triangle when measurements of the three are given (SSS)

Example 1

1. Construct a triangle △PQR with sides : PQ = 4 cm, QR = 5 cm, RP = 7 cm

STEP 1: Draw Rough Sketch

Draw a rough triangle

Label vertices as P, Q, and R

Mark measurements: PQ = 4 cm, QR = 5 cm, RP = 7 cm

STEP 2: Draw Base Line

Draw line segment QR = 5 cm

Use ruler to measure exactly 5 cm

Mark endpoints as Q and R

STEP 3: Locate Third Vertex

With Q as center, draw arc of radius 4 cm (PQ length)

With R as center, draw arc of radius 7 cm (RP length)

Mark intersection point of arcs as P

STEP 4: Complete Triangle

Join PQ and PR

Triangle PQR is now constructed with all sides

QR = 5 cm

PQ = 4 cm

RP = 7 cm
