Numbers are positioned on a number line, with zero (0) at the center. The numbers on the right side of zero are and greater than zero, while the numbers on the left side are and less than zero.

Although numbers on both sides may have the same absolute value, their signs determine their meaning.

Real-Life Use of Negative Numbers

Negative numbers are commonly used in daily life to represent losses, temperature drops, past events, and depths below a reference point.

These numbers are written with a minus (-) sign**, such as **-1, -2, -3, -10, -20, ... for easy identification.
